There's a happy balance between city and country that you should shoot for, if you are thinking about leaving the city. You want to be outside the suburbs, beyond the bus lines -- city buses are what allow the trash of humanity to move around, and if you are on a bus route, they can reach you. But you want to be close enough to a small town, or even a small city, that you can drive in to buy things when necessary.

In my own case, I live around ten minutes outside a town in a farming district. I have one neighbor ajoining my property -- the other three sides are woods or fields. I'm far enough out to be away from the drug crime, but close enough to reach doctors, dentists, grocery stores, and so on. It's a balance you need to strike.

I work in IT, so unless I want a shitty $35K salary, I had to move closer to a city.

But then, just a year ago, the best thing happened. We had a plandemic! Now I can make six figures in my underwear at home. We'll be moving back into the woods shortly.

Problem with that. Cost of living goes down faster the farther outside of a city than employment pay does. And it's not really that close.

Problem with that.

I don't see the problem.
