I'm not sure if GD was ever part of or owner of AM General. It wouldn't surprise me if a superior vehicle lost out the the hummer. For an 80's SUV, the hummer really isn't that bad. The problem is automotive tech has changed substantially in the last 40 years. We need a more efficient vehicle and the heavy ass JLTV isn't going to be that. The DoD likes to have all in one solutions like the JSF which never work as well or as cheaply as purpose built solutions like the A-10/F16. I'd think they'd be better off with a split of CUCVs and real APCs.
