Those up armored hummers suck. They have less horsepower than a base Camry while weighing like 4x as much. Last time I checked we were making like 5 mpg in them. If they start actually using them, they exhaust all their money on fuel in no time. If anything, the Taliban probably has a new found respect for our soldiers who would go on patrols in those POS daily.
It would have cost more to bring that shit home than it would to just leave it there and write it off. However, there is no excuse for not glassing the engine with something like sodium silicate to make it a truly worthless paperweight.

I'm not sure if GD was ever part of or owner of AM General. It wouldn't surprise me if a superior vehicle lost out the the hummer. For an 80's SUV, the hummer really isn't that bad. The problem is automotive tech has changed substantially in the last 40 years. We need a more efficient vehicle and the heavy ass JLTV isn't going to be that. The DoD likes to have all in one solutions like the JSF which never work as well or as cheaply as purpose built solutions like the A-10/F16. I'd think they'd be better off with a split of CUCVs and real APCs.
