He didn’t make it up. The north imposed 90% tariffs on the south and the Civil War almost happened during the Jackson administration but he reduced the tariffs and brokered peace between the south and north politicians considering he was a southerner it worked for a few more decades.

Another piece to the Civil War puzzle was that Lincoln stole his Presidential election and didn’t count the ballots in a couple of Southern states which tipped him as the winner.

Lincoln was very unpopular and lost both of his elections and needed to cheat to remain in office.
