These are memes. The whole point of memes is that a single individual can produce an effective one. These goat-herders are internet literate and politically astute. You know, maybe the left will note that the mohammadans are suspiciously capable of meming, just like the right, and decide that they don't like their allies any more.
You underestimate the amount of time it takes for an outsider to manufacture a meme that is acceptable to the target audience.
It is easy for you to manufacture a meme that will influence your direct friends, whose culture you understand, but how much research would you have to do to manufacture a meme that would be influential to a Muslim living in Saudi Arabia? Or even a Muslim living in New York City. Imagine the hours you would spend to understand the culture on that forum.
The taliban meme guy probably lurks here. Think about it. Muslims hate jews, faggots, uppity women etc. Theyd like this place for the most part.
Imagine the hours you would spend to understand the culture on that forum.
A few afternoons?
Internet culture is largely based on the culture of the USA. If you are exposed to the internet, it is unavoidable, and that is why the Taliban were able to joke about Facebook censorship, for example. If Islamic culture were as ubiquitous and open as internet culture, then it would also be possible to produce memes based on that culture.
Maybe you’re right. Maybe the Taliban’s sophisticated understanding of Facebook is a normal thing. Despite the low literacy rate, perhaps it is normal for the average Afghani to understand American culture on Facebook enough to influence you.
Or, you know, maybe there are some very wealthy sophisticated people attempting to influence international politics. Who knows?
