The Founding Fathers literally had canons and warships. They literally had weapons of war. They even considered purchasing Puckle guns but an entire warship cost less and was more reliable. If you don't know what a Puckle gun is, it's basically a crank operated machine gun. They even had replaceable ammunition wheels, like a clip or magazine for modern so-called "assault" rifles.
