Ever since the rise of Islam, Christians had put up a fighting response until the Jews subverted them internally in the West. After the death of Mohammed the Rashidun caliphate made a move on Byzantine and the first response by the Christian empire was to fight the Muslim invaders at the Battle of Yarmouk which took place somewhere around Jordan. The first response was not to turn the other cheek.
