My Dad worked for Bell as a summer student and earned enough in four months to pay for his entire year, with savings left over.

At age 25 he had graduated university with no outstanding debt, was employed as a regional manager for a major corporation, owned his own home and car, was recently married, and his first child was on the way. Corporations were throwing money at university graduates, and employment offers came with perks, like they give sports stars. That's how my father got his second home before he was 30. It was gifted to him as part of a job offer.

I'm one of the older people here, and I made it out of university before they started going crazy with the price. I had only a very small debt, but no major job, no home, and no marriage. Paid employment has always been temporary and low wages. I worked self employed as a tradesman, because career positions were few and far between already. Years later, when I did work for the government, it was not a career position. I have never known career stability. Almost always self employed, because the money is better. Now I would not accept a career position. I prefer the freedom.

Once you learn how to employ yourself, you really don't need anybody else.

Today, unless you are going into engineering or one of the hard sciences, like medicine, I would recommend you go to trade school instead. There is nothing taught in the humanities or social sciences you cannot learn by reading a library book.

Used to be corporations wanted people who could think for themselves. That is no longer the case. University now is about indoctrination, not education. It is a waste of time and money. Learn a trade, or several, and you will always be in high demand.
