I see. Ubuntu here, by the way. MTpaint reminds me of Krita in its layout and such (I just installed it) , except with Krita it's more focused on vector drawing. Have you tried the animation via moving layer on this MT before? That sounds interesting for crude gif animation type of stuff. Manually doing dozens of layers really takes the fun out of that sort of thing, so that might be useful.
