I used to be an atheist and it's the same thing outlined in the OP. Carefully constructed arguments and carefully constructed worldviews. If I can talk to an atheist willing to approach discourse in good faith, I'm able to at least get him to see eye to eye. They unironically believe there is no rational reason someone would believe in God. And to this day looking back I have no idea how I was so oblivious.
In the Orthodox Christian Church there's a saying, "tell me the God you don't believe in, because I probably don't believe in him either".
