Getting jostled around can loosen the screw on that laser/IR unit, its equipment that is a big deal to lose. The zip tie keeps it more secure and helps keep it zeroed.

Apparently something is way under engineered. Combat ready weapons and accessories shouldn’t need duct tape and bailing wire. But, you’re probably correct.
