The magic of Apple products has always been a combination of hardware and software. Years ago, Apple had the best of both. These days, they barely have one. And unfortunately with the other in the poor state it's in, things aren't looking good. Recently I had the occasion to buy a new primary machine. And for the first time in my life and over 40 years of experience with Apple, I chose another route. And I am not sorry. I likely will not go back to Apple for some years, if ever.

You never gave a fucking reason why.

In recent years the OS software has gotten very bad and Apple has done little to fix it. The UI is becoming disjointed and there are more crashing issues. The hardware is splitting between super high end and low end - there isn't much in between. For professionals, it's either spend $5,000 or more on a high end system (which is usually far more powerful than really needed), or go with a PC build for $1,500 which will do just as well. And Apple changing their core hardware isn't great either. They've done it several times over their whole history, but it seems to be happening more frequently. While some of the new hardware is technically (on paper) better, the changes take a toll on the coders and the quality of things suffer.
