I was thinking that the other day, I'm amazed no one's run up at night and sledgehammered it a bit.
You wouldn't even need to destroy the whole thing, even just defacing a good chunk of the writing would obviate the point.
I recall a few years agot they went and spray painted and chiseled it but the jes have upped security since then. Maybe one day that bulldozer guy will rise from the grave or a suicide trucker will take it out, then well see the hard record of who is paying to keep it up
I doubt explosives would do it, that'd just char it. Maybe some acid dropped from a drone?
If it's limestone then it's highly soluble.
Edit: Nope! Granite. We should be so lucky.
Nelson’s column was granite iirc. The design made it a bit more conducive to explosives tbf, but a bit of fertiliser with some south Armagh elbow grease can achieve quite a lot.
