These are the types of people who say we need Universal Basic Income. It's not for survival needs like food and shelter, it's so that they can sit at home all day binge-watching their shows and being stuck in life as perpetual children on a Saturday morning without having any responsibilities. They want government to be mom & dad that sticks them in front of the TV just as their worthless divorced parents did. That's the only empty model of life they have ever been given because they were raised by TV and movies. They don't see the irony that their fictional character idols have more depth and substance than they do. That the lives of make-believe people has more meaning and purpose to them than anything real in their lives. So no wonder his friend didn't value life, when fantasy is greater than reality what sacrifice is it to give up reality? He could have spent his life overcoming adversity and obstacles and making that an actual adventure instead. It's just really sad how people choose to live more like animals than human beings. They are given this wonderful life and they are too afraid to live in it. They poison the bodies they were given, they squander the brains they were given, and they just exist to consume pre-programmed lines of code and scripts written to keep them amused. No different than an alcoholic really.

This mindset is the result of a process. It's not like the consoomers just woke up like that one day.

They see the details of life around them. Seeing the state of modern women makes the escapism very appealing. That's just one thing. Tons of details of modern society are similarly shitty. I'm not surprised that consoomerism gets so much attention.

Cultural reform is needed. It starts with bringing back arranged marriage decided by fathers.
