Genies are demons bound to a vessel and compelled by geas to serve those who possess the vessel, the wish limit is likely in order to make sure all the mages who summoned the demon get something out of it and that it isn't hoarded.

Despite the geas, the genies are still demons, and they will try and undo their mortal master at any turn they can, simply because they hate humanity, probably even more since humans shoved them into a toy and forced them to do stuff for whichever human touches it.

So while they are compelled to obey your orders, they do so only by how they choose to interpret said orders, hence the genie intentionally twisting your words to fuck you over.

of course, I found the best combination of wishes:

I wish for the power to consciously make anything that I choose to happen in reality, occur in reality exactly the way I would intend for it to happen.

I wish for you to become a normal human, with no memory of your time as a demon or a genie.

I just ask for unlimited wishes. Boom. Problem solved.
