You've probably heard of Darwinism. You've also probably heard of social Darwinism. Have you ever heard of cultural Darwinism?
Different cultures compete with each other, and there has been such competition since before civilization existed. Cultures which adopt rules which, despite your considering them morally repugnant, give them an advantage over their neighbors and allow them to overrun or otherwise conquer them, succeed and pass both their DNA and their memetics to their successors.
It's a conservative viewpoint, and if you ignore these paths to success, no matter how much they horrify you, you do so at your peril. And I despair that there's no way around stomping on individual choice for the benefit of the state in order to survive.
Don't even get me started on Quantum Darwinism.
And I despair that there's no way around stomping on individual choice for the benefit of the state in order to survive.
I disagree. People kowtowing to the state is a major part of how we ended up in this mess.
Yup. Government inevitably becomes corrupt. It's evil, and part of my despair is that it's a necessary evil, something we can never get away from. Corruption from within or attack from without. Hobson's choice.
Well, I'll respect your opinion. Personally I see centralised monopolies as an avanue of attack rather than a shield.
