A Japanese person would NEVER say this. My spouse and I debate about whether the Japanese are "racist". I say they are not. They do not restrict foreigners because they think they are superior to them, they literally believe that the Japanese are not "Japanese" unless they can trace their lineage back several generations. They believe this is how they have good fortune and are blessed by their ancestors. So they make it a point to not intermarry and mess that up. If this crap was happening in Tokyo, the Japanese would shut it down fast.
It's called Ethnocentrism. The Japs are the most ethnocentric of all people, followed by the Koreans and Jews.
I lived in Japan for many years and I can definitely confirm that Japanese people are racist as fuck.
They honestly think that they are better than everyone else, and that everyone else is beneath them. It's just baked into the culture.
Mostly they hate Chinese and Korean people, but White people are also viewed as uncivilized baboons and not worthy of respect.

Haha, ok, fair enough. I should have added the caveat that I don't know for SURE they don't think they are superior. I guess that isn't surprising. My point was that their strong reason for not allowing foreigners in couldn't be simply dismissed as mere "racism". My understanding of the culture came from a white professor I had in college. He created a whole Japanese society curriculum of classes based on the many years he was actually allowed to live there, and was granted the rare access to portions of their society usually off-limits to white people. Interesting guy, great class.
