Critical thinkers look like mad men to people who do not have the ability to think deeply. You can't expect the most average people to rationally think through what's happening right now. I'm no genius, but it would be like me trying to think on the level of Elon Musk. I can follow certain things, but once he really goes deep into rationalizing everything, I'd just have to trust his word for it. The only thing we can do is trust our own judgment and stop trying too hard to convince people.

The US citizenry is armed, just in case the level of trust goes to hell. It's not at the point yet. Small town local governments reflect our thinking and that of our neighbors, in most cases.
