Yes, but I wouldnt be to quick to thank him. He (and Huxley) were Fabians. Orwell and Huxley weren't warning us. They were running our noses in it. 1984 and Brave New World weren't warnings of what could happen if we arent vigilant about tyranny. They were basically saying that this is what WILL happen and there's nothing you can do about it. Makes the books even more depressing in that context.
Huxley maybe, but the way I understand things is that Orwell had been high in the communist party and when he learned the actual plan dropped out and that inspired him to write 1984 as a warning to humanity regarding the plan that was in store for us.
Oh, ok. I didn't know that. Which, I must admit is rather embarrassing. I did my senior research paper on George Orwell in high school. I should've remembered that.
