Did a kitchen remodel 10 years ago, and bought KitchenAid appliances. Salesman mentioned something about Sabbath mode on the oven, but never learned about it or gave it another thought - until now. Per kikepedia:

While according to Halakha, raw food may not be cooked on the Shabbat, food that was already cooked beforehand may be kept warm until mealtime. In the past, the Sabbath-observant would leave their food heating on the stove where it had been covered with a blech (metal sheet)...

Sounds like a good way to encourage food spoilage and poisoning.

Yikes.

You don't need a special mode to keep your oven on low. As long as the food is held at 135 degrees or higher it will keep it safe, but food quality can suffer.
