("progany" and "writting") >Before around 500 BC, the original circumcision ceremony amongst the Hebrews, known as "Brit Milah", literally translating to "the covenant of the word", consists of a ritualistic nick to the penis of foreskin of an infant to draw a single drop of blood. No incisions are made, no body tissue is removed, and the glans is left unexposed. This small nick heals and no damage is left to the penis. Brit Priya, and Brit Mezizah, new instructions added to the Halacha in 140 AD, 70 years after the fall of Jerusalem, instructed the Mohel, the Jewish circumciser, to now rip apart the foreskin from the glans of the baby with his nails, completely remove the foreskin and any traces of it, and suck the blood off the bleeding glans with his mouth, mixed with Holy Wine. This later on became the standard for Jews, both secular and religious, Islamic circumcision, and the vast majority of male circumcisions worldwide.
