The book of Revelation was originally written in greek,not hebrew. Secondly, once again, not every number system works the same way.
If you are still reading, in Hebrew for example, the letter vav is also the number 6. It can never stand for six hundred. Just like in Roman numerals VVV can never stand for five hundred fifty five. Same exact principle.

Too literal perhaps, after all, symbolically speaking it could represent 666 very easily. The Greek letters that add up to 666 are chi, xi, sigma. Phonetically it sounds out to Chzs. Whatever that is. Also, those three greek letters are almost identical to the arabic bismallah.
