One of the businesses I own is a restaurant. The general manager is a woman, which isn’t the case in any of my other businesses. I was visiting a couple weeks ago and saw a lower-level employee googling a new ingredient on the menu, fregola. Before the results came up I said “it’s a toasted israeli cous cous, sometimes called sardinian cous cous.” The GM was standing right there and flatly said, “it’s israeli cous cous.” Making a joke I thought was only for me, I said “well the sardinians don’t really have a homeland of their own and often claim things that aren’t theirs.” GM responded “so yeah, like I said, israeli.” Gave me so much satisfaction learning for sure that promoting her was the right move
