I like expanding it and running the mouse across the border mountain. You need to make a "focused comment" thing. Where you can click anywhere in that specific comments frame object and it stays highlighted. This way if children comments exist off the page, you can focus that comment by clicking somewhere in it's frame and scroll down and still know whose comment the offscreen comments belong to.
As is it's impossible due to the 4? pixel width of the child comment shift.
