Mostly the conversion of the meaning of the word is interesting, because the bible doesnt seem to make much reference to the practice anyways.

I guess you'd have to go back to the hebrew root to find out what it means. "Circumcision" I'm pretty sure it latin, "cutting around" or something.

Irrelevant is not quite the word I would use, I believe it was more of a one time thing, not something that was meant to go on.
