When I got here last week the owner of the various housing did my intake, which someone else usually does. Big guy with shaved head, tons of gawdy gold jewelry, wearing all sweats otherwise. Reminded me of a jew pawn shop boss I worked for, but couldn't tell his background, possibly jew or Italian with thick Philly accent. Definitely slum lord vibe, but tenants seem to like him. Was in recovery himself, lost a daughter to overdose. Wife works at the outpatient facility I went to first. Ask how her Christmas was. She's jewish she says. Ex husband isn't jewish, but children are, so don't really celebrate (on reflection it sounds like a subversive achievement). Still unsure about husband owner, but highly likely. Had racket written all over it, day I got in, but most of these things are regardless, even with folks involved with good intentions. On top of that, the house manager is an old nigger with a glass eye. Have two weeks covered for free rent, from scholarship, but weekly fee is insane after that, yet all I could've been provided getting out of treatment.

Fuck

Is this half way house a fixed requirement (I don't know much about how this all works)?

Sorta with outpatient treatment. Until I find work, yet still required. But theyre involved with both, and have some lousy reviews online

Sounds like you're being fucked into it.

Situation dependent, consider making a run for the hills. Idk, your call. I hope you make it through this and kick ass again. Just, not drunk or on anything. Quit. Be a quitter.

No, sober houses are either by choice or perhaps by some sort of legal stipulation. It can be a really good idea if you get into the right one.

However, there are a lot of predatory sober/recovery house owners who really don't ever want you to leave. You can make a lot more money running a sober house than you could renting out the same house.

It can be a really, really grimy business.

There's a midget I know who may be able to help. I shit you not

Chem free recovery houses provide the highest possible returns on investment to landlords. Stackem and pack-em guys in recovery with few other options paying cheap hotel room rates often splitting a room. The situation does provide motivation to create alternatives

Yeah, I'm thinking it out... Don't think many friends are able. Especially now I'm away from the town I was living, and lost touch with a lot of folks

Well. Congrats on getting some clean time under your belt. It is hardest and the least rewarding in the beginning. I just rolled through my five years day. I realized at some point the world was taking me out with my own appetites. I spent 35 years trying to find a workable way to live and use. I got good at maintaining(not really) and then I'd miss one of the knives I was juggling and get to watch it all burn again. Anyway, whatever.. I've lost touch with everyone, too. Makes the grind challenging on multiple levels.

Thanks bro. I'll be 36 next month... Not crazy about my situation, but I'll roll with it
