If you’re going by the biblical record, Pilate didn’t think Jesus should have been executed and even went to bat for him. Once the Jewish leadership and crowd in attendance made clear what they wanted, he washed his hands of it and gave them their wish.
I read the community notes, and agree with them except one point..that is, I don’t think that holding all the Jews of the time responsible is fair as many of them came to believe in him before and up to the event of the crucifixion.
Granted many didn’t, and only one of the Pharisees (Nicodemus) saw him for who he really was.
The 5,000 at the sermon on the mount were exclusively (or mostly) Jews, though, for example. All of the disciples and their families were, as well.
