At the height of Covid, when everyone was panic buying, this and the "near expired" meat was ALL We could get. Everything else was literally gone as fast as we got it in. Mind you: I WORKED At a grocery store. But everyone in the meat and produce departments would claim it and buy it before the store even opened.
I tried this stuff twice, because we SWORE the first time had to have been a bad batch. Nope. It smelled like burning plastic mixed with roadkill. It tasted like.....you know how candy says it tastes like strawberry or cherry, but it's nothing like it? Yeah...it was like someone made hamburger flavored candy and had no idea what real hamburger tasted like. The whole experience just tasted and felt....toxic for a better word. Like you were eating something meant to kill you.
Good riddance.
Edit: For the record: some of the meatless options aren't too bad, flavor wise. Morning Star makes pretty decent stuff for breakfast sausage and "hamburger" patties. But they also don't force themselves into the niche of "being better than meat". It's all plant based and they don't pretend otherwise. We used them for like 6 months at the height of shit, and I still crave them from time to time.
