They used to be brick, at least downtowns were. One advantage of asphalt: harder to tear up to use for civil unrest. Bricks and cobblestones, much easier.
Good point. However I do seem to remember stories of pallets of bricks being dropped off during the BLM's summer of love.
Just a 《cohencidence》 Honest bricks are put in a secure place so as to be used, not left on the street.
