Self-determination law: Change your gender entry? No problem. But not in case of war!
The Federal Ministry of Justice and the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs have presented their draft bill on the Self-Determination Law. In the event of war, the individual wishes and rights of men with regard to their sexual orientation will cease.
The Self-Determination Law is intended to "improve life for transgender and intersex people and replace the Transsexual Law," according to the official announcement on June 30, 2022, by Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Federal Minister of Justice Dr. Marco Buschmann (FDP).
The German Press Agency (dpa) has now received more detailed information from those responsible about the internally adopted plans and definitions of the law. In this regard, the newspaper Die Welt writes in an article:
"Men are not to be able to escape a possible draft in case of defense by changing their gender status. This is provided for in a special provision in the planned self-determination law of the current German government."
