Explain to him that just because he's able to think abstractly, doesn't mean everyone can. Because he has empathy, doesn't automatically give everyone the same ability. Then he can start noticing.

His Mom took them to Florida a while back and he had a chance to see them in their natural habitat, he knows what's up but breaking the programming isn't so easy. And we pay to send him to a private school, I can't imagine what it must be like in the public schools.
