This was my thought. Assuming the planet you're going to is already inhabited, they'll likely won't bother letting you land with the majority of those leeches. If that is really the available passenger list then maybe it's time to take one for the team and disable the space ship.

If my thinking too. Is this one shop of a fleet? Is this the list of seats available after all the real people were chosen? This read like the list of people that dies in the crash during the first episode.
