Look around and find a local farmer. Those eggs will be the best you've ever had. Bright orange yolks. Chicken, duck, turkey, quail, etc. The price should be close to store price, by now. You can even buy pigs, cows (whole, half, quarter,) chickens, ducks, etc. Slaughtered and packaged. They may want to know how you want it processed, but a few questions is worth the time.
In the northern hemisphere farm chickens are taking a bit of a break.
Yes, you're correct. The farmer I know has about 50 or so chickens. They said they get about 3- 8 eggs a day, this time of year. It's the lack of sunlight. They could install a light in the coop, but that's hard on a bird that's trying to live through the winter cold here. (I try to eat one egg a day, so I keep in touch.)
Light and warmth.
It's no surprise that the cost of eggs go up this time of year but the factors behind this drastic of an increase are finally hitting home to some.
