You will own nothing.

This architecture reminds me of the old mainframe days when all you had was a terminal. What's old is new again.

Now if I could only find my old VT52.

I want a VT52!

Shhhh! You shouldn't know about such things.

Not the first time they tried to move your OS off your machine. It fails every time.

This was tried before, about every decade for like half a century.

Apple is rolling out subscription devices, I'm sure micro$oft is right behind. If you don't own your device you have no need for storage, so- cloud storage it is. Rewrite history. Can't prove it if it isn't there. Power of the pen. or in this case, power of "you will own nothing and be happy for it".

What could possibly go wrong?

For starters, it will be a subscription & will cost a fortune. It will rely on an internet connection. They can now basically do anything they want to your device and you won't even know. Tracking?

Probably worse, slightly altering your files so that your version of reality is shifted. Nasty stuff.

Ex: your copy of your favorite book is now retconned and full of vibrant people. Pic somewhat related https://pic8.co/sh/NtA0qj.jpeg
