I mean babies have a hard time distinguishing shapes and colors, but they do see some color nuances, and on the face of blacks, everything is dark, only contrasting with the white part of their eyes (and teeth...)

That is hilarious and actually I think a possible answer. I'll never forget one night I was on my balcony and I heard a woman scream, and crash, she yelled for help and a male voice responded "all I can see is his eyes and teeth". Then I heard a couple gunshots and went back in my dorm.
The next day it was reported a black male had been shot trying to break in to a house and the White man went searching in the backyard before shooting the nignog.
