In the late 1960s I was in high school FFA, we took a trip the UC Davis to the veterinary dept and saw cows with 'windows' in their sides so they could study their digestion. We also saw dozens of beagles they were doing experiments on, that had their vocal cords removed so they didn't have listen to the constant barking. It's pretty freaky for a teenager to see dozens of dogs barking, but making no sound.
