Shades of Richard Nixon. The first time he price fixed it was a major disaster so they had to end it. Didn't stop him from doing it a second time and that worked so good that when that one ended the rest of the 70s was a time of massive inflation.

I'm old enough to remember the price-fixing of the early 70s. Stores, businesses knew about it in advance, everyone but the enduser, so prices went up before hand. Of course, that would never happen today. /s
