Surprised this isn't a thing already. Cars being sold as being able to hit 180mph but max speeds in the uk are 70 is odd and retarded.
Can you still go 70mph in a 30mph zone though or are they going to track you constantly and adjust the max speed?
Just capping engine to a max rpm could cap the top end limit of cars. You don't need any fancy shit.
What happens in racing? Do you have to buy uncapped cars or is it going to be as exciting as watching paint dry?
e
forward-facing camera mounted on the car and the vehicle's satellite navigation system to identify the speed limit and, if the car is exceeding it, to restrict the fuel flowing to the engine until the vehicle is at the limit speed
Right so tracking you all day long, lovely.

The next step is commute based taxes for road maintenance.
Turning every road into a toll road owned by the state.
Edit: The best part? It will be sold as a way to help maintain more traveled roads. The money of course will not cause any improved road conditions aside from that caused by people driving around less.
Trucks have speed limiters that work off GPS, at least some trucks in Europe have this feature. Trucks can't accelerate very well so it's not like it matters for them, they could floor it with 20,000kg and they're not going to be lighting up the tires. Some cars do this as well to save fuel, but that's not the Murican' way, we need to light the fires and kick the tires, or vice versa.
