I blame the stupid parents. They have dead kids so they are getting their full reward for shitty parenting.
I taught my children from a young age that they were the only ones responsible for their emotional well being. I never tolerated "So-and-so said something mean so I got angry / sad / etc." It's OK to be sad in the moment, but then you move on ... find better friends, etc. This made my kids immune to stupid friend drama and helped them understand and own their emotions. Allowed them to develop healthy and rational responses when the world craps on them.
Easier said than done. An idiot (emotionally immature) coach yelling at your 14 year old kid ... you want nothing more than to 'protect' your kid from a bully coach. But, that only stunts their growth and development. Kid at that age must either decide that they want to play bad enough to tolerate the coach and not to internalize any anger. To accept the message being communicated without accepting the anger. Or, to walk away and find another team / sport / etc.
Trevor Moore always had something relevant to say. (youtube.com).
