A 49-year-old man from Idar-Oberstein has been remanded in custody on urgent suspicion of murder. The man is suspected of having shot and killed a 20-year-old gas station employee at a gas station in Idar-Oberstein late on Saturday evening, September 18.

According to the investigations of the police and the public prosecutor's office so far, the 49-year-old man is said to have initially entered the gas station at around 7:45 p.m. in order to make purchases there. Because he did not carry mouth nose covering there had been a short discussion with the cashier, the later victim of the crime. Thereupon the crime suspect left the gas station. Around 21.25 the suspect entered again the gas station, this time with put on mouth nose covering. When he was at the cash register, he pulled down the mask and there was again a short exchange of words. Finally, he pulled a revolver from his pants pocket and fired a fatal shot at the 20-year-old student from Idar-Oberstein. He then fled on foot.
