UBI is insane, not what Montana is doing. I just wanted to be clear about that.

And yet the left constantly promises a utopia without work.. and they buy it.

Every western commie rat imagines themselves to be a Party bureaucrat, a writer, a journalist, with freedoms unavailable to the masses. It never occurs to them that they would be ploughing fields for 16 hours a day.

Nobody plowed fields for 16 hours a day in communist Russia. It's one of the reasons why they were always having famines and the grocery stores were constantly bombed out and empty with bare shelves. The people with the capability to work like that stop doing it once their is no incentive too you claim a disability or mental illness and fly under the radar like everyone else.

That and lysenkoism. The farmers didn't get to decide what work was carried out on their fields, that was decided by central planners. So if some idiot decided "hey, I bet we could increase crop yields by burying nuclear waste under the field" (not a joke, that actually happened) then better hope you like having a glowing shovel.

Aside from ridiculous incidents like that and the apathy you mentioned there was all kinds of waste and inefficiency; purely because trying to plan the work of millions of field workers from an office in the city while primarily playing office politics and trying not to be killed by them isn't doable.

This. What compounded the problem was the internal passport system and the state assigning jobs. Even if you were a genius and wanted to be a scientist or something and if the state said you were shoveling shit that is what you did, or went on state assistance and drank vodka professionally. By the late 60s/70s the only people with jobs were party members and their families. It'll be the same way here in the late 2030s, if not sooner.

Drug dealers always give the first few hits for free, it's just the way of the world.
