Step 2: Begin rewarding people merely for the speech act of pointing out they are offended.
Step 3: Underachieving people become incentivized to seek out opportunities, no matter how strained, to claim something is offensive.
Step 4: Voice offense at mascot from Step 1.
Step 5: Gather support.
Step 6: Unoffended people become worried, based on the insane success of this process to cancel people, that by not agreeing they may be deemed offensive.
Step 7: To avoid the potentially disproportionate negative side effects of being labeled offensive, they take the option which appears to have no real effect on them - they agree.
Step 8: Mascot is canceled.
Step 9: Fear of being cancelled grows.
Step 10: Return to Step 1.
