Research has suggested that gender-affirming surgery, in particular, has a notable and long-term impact on mental health
And it usually isn't positive! Look at the suicide rates.
“This is the third time it’s been postponed. It’s getting more and more heartbreaking to keep getting so close to something that will make me feel better and feel like I'm in the right body for once,”
Sadly even after surgery this person will not be mentally whole. Instead of them getting mental help, they are being sold this snake oil.

That's the thing. They've got no shot at getting mental help. They go see doctors who specialize in this shit and they're not going to talk a patient out of it.
By the time they get to a consultation, even if a doctor tried, these people are likely already brainwashed. They would shrug it off and look for another doctor.
Yep. Early intervention is the only thing that will (might?) help.
Also if a doctor did specialize in this they would have to tow the line that it's healthy because the DSM says they should. They could lose their license for being honest with somebody.
