They are usually about 40 cents a can on sale so we stock up everytime they are. Its cheap protein and the only other thing that cheap is eggs and I have yet to think of a way to make those last long term.
This works but I would go with the boiled option and then vacuum seal the results. YMMV.

Interesting idea, I'm not sure how well it would come out re hydrated but its long term store-able protein.
I only remembered dehydrated eggs from a camping trip when I was a kid, they were edible but you asked so I looked it up. Then I actually read the article.
I had been playing around with the idea of using my giant smoker to make beef jerky but the idea of a 12 hour cook for only 5 pounds of beef (the lean stuff is very expensive here) wasn't very appealing... but if I can dehydrate eggs at the same time, both of them with that rich cherry smoke flavor, I'm just about to give it a try.
