Stations of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), the heavy rail in the SF Bay area, have been over run and passengers have been robbed by mobs. These incidents are covered up, the nominal reason is to avoid sounding racist by having to report the skin color of the mobs. Because of lawsuits and political correctness, SF and other departments have stopped enforcement against minor crimes. The BART itself has track and wheel geometry that produces an unhealthy amount of noise. It borders on painful to ride, from the noise. The basic technology of running wheels on tracks was originated in trains over a century before BART was built. The idea that they fucked up so badly is astounding. Initially building links in lower population areas will leave the infrastructure very underutilized, for many years, until the rest of the system is built. The idea of construction is to get something built as fast as reasonable, so things can be used.
