propaganda has caused people to associate these talking points with their identity, because they have defended it for so long and believed it for so long, for alot of people, admitting it is wrong would be as difficult as a long time Christian denouncing God, that's how tied it is to their identity. They are believing these things religiously because its tied to their moral compass, and alot of people dont want to believe their views were shaped by evil pedophiles. The longer they believe their narrative, the harder it is to admit they're wrong.

Kinda like how some guys who get circumcized will have their child circumsized because they cant admit that its wrong and causes trauma, because he's alright and he does love his kid.
