Buy a gun. Take it apart. Look at each piece and ask yourself "how hard is it really to make that?". Once you get past the illusion that it needs to be accurate to microns for accuracy and strong to a billion inch lbs you realize you could probably make that with a $500 used Machine tool.
There are literally sand niggers in the desert making knockoff guns with hammers and chisels. They work.
Mass manufacturing is NOT conducive to accuracy or quality. You can make a much better gun at home than nearly any of the name brands you can buy.
