When I lived in the city I had 9 shot bird rounds for that reason. But now I live in the pickers and there isn't anyone else around.

The guy was hit from a real far distance. Number 9 birdshot at 10 yards is going to leave a massive path of destruction. The odds of survival are minimal.

Multiple stories of close range bird shots surviving. Also in that pic look at the spread 10 yards and under.

Average spread is 1 inch per yard. Someone else said 10 yards, I would guess between that and 15 yards.
