Personally disagree, number 4 is good for large birds and up to coyotes with a reasonable choke.
It doesn’t have a lot of actual tactical loads on the market that can keep a decent spread on an open choke, and struggles with penetration. Meanwhile it will still go through plenty of dry wall.
I prefer a loaded 30 round in a 5.56. It loses most of its lethality on the first drywall, easy to handle if you are sitting on the ground and a Jewish leftist tries to charge you with a skate board or hand gun, and it’s so easy to clear a malfunction a 17 year old can do it when need be.
My mossy 500 was cheap, is a ton of fun, and has taken its share of wild turkey. If I was going to rely on it for home defense, there is a reason 00 buck and slugs are the standard.
When I lived in the city I had 9 shot bird rounds for that reason
Never use birdshot for self defence. People can take a chest of bird shot and live. NSFW (pic8.co)
The guy was hit from a real far distance. Number 9 birdshot at 10 yards is going to leave a massive path of destruction. The odds of survival are minimal.
