That is more than I'd spend too. I have a Mossberg that I didn't pay much for. I only shoot some clays here and there, so I don't need much.

I've got a pricier one I picked up years ago but you'll find semi auto remingtons all day used in perfect condition for well under a grand. Think more around $5-600 at a gun show. They'll hold their value over time better than that Savage will b/c of brand recognition etc. If you're looking for something around that same price point that savage is new get a used Bennelli instead. I've never understood people that buy new guns when the market is flooded w/ used guns in perfect and never fired condition.
